A social media post by Asom D Jerry has raised alarming accusations against Barnabas Gomna, Commander of Operation Zenda in Gboko, Benue State, claiming he is involved in the indiscriminate arrest and killing of young men perceived as supporters of local stakeholders.
The statement alleges that Officer Gomna moves around Gboko, arresting young men in hotels and killing them without trial or transferring their cases to the Police Headquarters in Makurdi for proper investigation. It further claims that four youths have already been killed under his watch, with their bodies deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi.
The post calls on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to direct the Commissioner of Police in Benue to investigate the activities of the Operation Zenda Commander. It also urges Governor Hyacinth Alia to be informed that the accused officer, described as his brother whom he facilitated for the appointment, is allegedly behind these acts.
The writer appealed for urgent intervention from security authorities to address the situation.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response or confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force, the Benue State Government, or other authorities regarding these grave allegations. Such claims, if proven, would raise serious concerns about human rights and security operations in the area. Investigations are expected to determine the veracity of the accusations.
