Alia Under Fire as Commonwealth Report Ranks Benue 34th Out of 36 States in Governance Performance

A new governance performance report has placed Benue State among Nigeria’s lowest-performing states, triggering fresh criticism of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration three years into office.

According to the Commonwealth Governance Performance Index, Benue State was ranked 34th out of 36 states, raising serious concerns about transparency, accountability, public service delivery, and overall development in the state.

Critics argue that the poor ranking mirrors the harsh realities confronting residents, including persistent insecurity, unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, and inadequate social services. Many are also demanding clarity on how public funds have been utilised over the past three years.
