Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya Responds to PSA on Human Trafficking, Clarifies His Mission

Anti-human trafficking crusader Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya has responded to a recent press release by Hon. Emmanuel Iorhemba Anundu, Principal Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia on Human Trafficking and Child Labour.

In a detailed statement, Yaaya addressed Hon. Anundu directly, noting that he saw the press release and attempted to reach him by phone without success. He expressed the belief that the release was indirectly aimed at discrediting his independent efforts to combat human trafficking in Benue State.

Yaaya clarified that he is not against prostitution but is specifically focused on fighting human trafficking and traffickers. He emphasized that his work stems from a desire to rid Benue of the scourge of trafficking, which the state is ranked high in, according to NAPTIP.

He explained that while he initially collaborated with the PSA’s office, he decided to continue his advocacy independently as a concerned Benue son. Yaaya quoted definitions of human trafficking from the United Nations and the U.S. Department of Justice to distinguish it from other related issues like smuggling or voluntary prostitution.

The activist called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to address the problem, stating that everyone has a role to play in building a better Benue State. He ended by urging unity in tackling societal challenges.
