Human and Gender Rights Activist, Ukan Kurugh, has made a passionate appeal to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and the Inspector General of Police, urging the appointment of a more proactive, people-oriented, and result-driven Commissioner of Police for the state.
In a statement released on his Facebook page, Kurugh highlighted growing public concerns over alleged misconduct by some police officers under the current administration, including extortion, illegal arrests, unlawful detention of young people, and the indiscriminate labeling of innocent citizens without due process.
As the current Commissioner of Police in Benue State prepares to retire, the activist emphasized the need for a replacement who will strengthen public confidence, enhance security, and deliver professional, accountable, and community-centered policing.
Kurugh described the desired Commissioner as one who would uphold justice and human rights while providing effective leadership comparable to other states across Nigeria.
He urged residents to share the message widely and tag relevant authorities to ensure it reaches decision-makers for urgent action. The appeal has been directed to both the Governor and the Nigeria Police Force.
The call reflects ongoing demands for improved policing and respect for citizens’ rights in Benue State.
