Bishop Murray Medical Center Launches Long-Acting LENACAPVIR HIV Preventive Injection in Makurdi

Bishop Murray Medical Center in Makurdi has officially commenced the rollout of a Long-Acting HIV preventive injection known as LENACAPVIR (LEN) in Benue State.

The launch, which took place on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, was attended by program officials from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, and the Benue State Ministry of Health. The initiative marks a significant step in HIV prevention efforts in the state.

According to a statement from the hospital’s management, staff of Bishop Murray Medical Center will be the first beneficiaries of the injection. The general public will subsequently be communicated with on when to access the service once staff administration is completed.

The LENACAPVIR injection, a form of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), is administered twice a year. Only individuals who test negative for HIV will qualify to receive it.

The development is expected to strengthen HIV prevention strategies in Benue State by providing a more convenient and long-lasting option for at-risk individuals. Further details on access for the general public will be announced by the hospital management in due course.
