Pure Biotech Company Limited has dismissed allegations of corruption and illegal “gate fees” in its cassava procurement process, describing the claims as false and malicious. The firm says ongoing tensions stem from unregistered suppliers and strict quality enforcement, not misconduct.
In an official statement signed by management, the company explained that it operates a structured system involving over 17,000 registered vendors. It insists that only approved suppliers meeting production and quality standards are allowed access. According to the firm, many rejected suppliers arrive with wet cassava, unsuitable for ethanol production, leading to disputes.
Pure Biotech also denied claims that staff demand payments ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million for entry. It further revealed cases of sabotage, including the concealment of burnt bricks in cassava loads, which damaged critical equipment and reduced processing capacity to 400 units daily.
While some affected suppliers have protested, the company described the actions as coordinated attempts to spread misinformation. It reaffirmed a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and highlighted its economic contributions, including over 200 direct jobs and community projects such as the installation of electricity transformers and boreholes, distribution of relief materials during floods, and investment in local educational infrastructure.
The firm expressed concern over recent vandalism, including the destruction of a school building and theft of pumping equipment from community boreholes. It called for constructive engagement with stakeholders to resolve tensions and protect industrial operations, while urging the public and government to support efforts aimed at driving economic growth in Benue State.
