Public concern is growing in Benue State over the prosecution process linked to the deadly Yelewata attacks following reports that a suspected arms dealer allegedly connected to the violence was not included among suspects recently arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suspect, identified as Abdukata, was reportedly arrested about eight months ago by security operatives in Abinsi, a community in Benue State. Authorities allegedly linked him to the supply of weapons used by armed groups responsible for attacks across parts of the Benue Valley and neighbouring Nasarawa State.

Sources familiar with the case revealed that several firearms were recovered from locations associated with the suspect during the operation. These reportedly included high-grade weapons such as general-purpose machine guns.

However, when other suspects accused of involvement in the Yelewata killings were recently arraigned in Abuja, Abdukata was notably absent from the list of defendants presented before the court.

The development has triggered speculation and allegations of possible interference by influential figures seeking his release. Some unverified reports also suggest that certain security operatives may be involved in efforts to secure his freedom.

Observers have drawn comparisons to the controversial case involving Hamisu Bala Wadume, whose arrest and prosecution in connection with kidnapping once sparked nationwide debate.

Residents and civil society observers are now urging authorities to ensure transparency in the investigation and prosecution of all suspects linked to the attacks. They insist that a thorough and impartial legal process is necessary to rebuild public trust and deliver justice for the affected communities.

No official statement has been issued by the relevant security agencies or the Federal High Court clarifying the status of Abdukata or reasons for his exclusion from the arraignment list at the time of this report.

The Yelewata attacks remain one of the most tragic incidents of violence in recent Benue history, leaving deep scars on affected communities and renewing calls for accountability and justice.
