Normalcy Gradually Returning to Yelewata Community After Months of Tension

Life is gradually returning to Yelewata community in Benue State, nearly nine months after a deadly attack disrupted normal activities in the area, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet, has said.

Essiet disclosed that residents are slowly rebuilding their lives as markets begin to reopen and daily activities gradually resume across the community.

Speaking during a recent engagement with residents, the presidential aide noted that the visible presence of security personnel in the area has played a significant role in restoring calm and rebuilding public confidence.

According to her, many residents expressed appreciation for the sustained deployment of security operatives, which they believe has helped stabilise the community after months of tension and uncertainty.

“Life is gradually returning to Yelewata. Markets are reopening and people are beginning to go about their daily activities again,” Essiet said during the visit.

She added that the federal government remains committed to supporting peace-building efforts and ensuring the safety of residents in the community.

The attack on Yelewata had earlier forced many residents to flee their homes and disrupted economic activities in the area. However, with improved security and ongoing community engagement efforts, residents are now gradually returning and working towards rebuilding their livelihoods.

Community leaders have also called for continued security presence and government support to sustain the progress made so far and prevent a recurrence of violence.
