The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue-SEMA) has recorded three new snakebite cases involving residents of IDP camps and vulnerable communities in Benue State.
The victims are Mrs. Ikyemtu Achin of the International Market IDP Camp, Mrs. Salome Uor Gwaza of Daudu II IDP Camp, and Akura Surunshima of Igbor in Gwer West Local Government Area. They were bitten while working on their farms outside the camps.
Dr. Amos Dzungwe, Focal Person on Health at Benue SEMA, disclosed that the three new cases bring the total number of snakebite cases recorded within the past week to three. With two other patients already on admission, five patients are currently receiving treatment for snakebite. He added that two patients have been successfully treated and discharged free of charge.
Beyond snakebite treatment, Benue SEMA is also providing medical care to people suffering from other health conditions across various IDP camps and vulnerable communities. Some victims of herdsmen attacks have also been admitted and are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, under the Benue SEMA Care Programme and the Memorandum of Understanding between Benue SEMA and BSUTH.
Benue SEMA remains committed and continues to monitor the health situation across all camps. The agency urges residents to remain vigilant and promptly report snakebite incidents and other medical emergencies for immediate attention.
