At least ten passengers, including a female grain trader, have been reportedly abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Takum–Tor Donga–Katsina-Ala federal highway in Benue State.
The incident occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026, while the victims were traveling from Takum in Taraba State to Tor-Donga Market in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue. Family members say the passengers were intercepted at Tse-De settlement under Katsina-Ala LGA.
According to relatives, the abductors ambushed the vehicle on the busy inter-state route and have since made no contact with the victims’ families, raising grave concerns about their safety and well-being.
The affected families have appealed to security agencies, particularly the Benue State Police Command, the Nigerian Army, and other relevant authorities, to urgently intervene and secure the safe release of the kidnapped persons. They described the route as increasingly dangerous for commuters and traders.
As of Monday morning, the Benue State Police Command is yet to issue an official confirmation or statement on the abduction. Residents along the corridor have renewed calls for heightened security patrols, increased military presence, and proactive measures to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and armed attacks on the Takum–Tor Donga–Katsina-Ala axis, a vital trade and travel link between Benue and Taraba states.
The incident adds to the growing insecurity challenges along inter-state highways in the North-Central region, where commuters, market women, and traders frequently fall victim to armed groups operating from forested areas. Further developments are awaited from security agencies.
