A series of alarming robbery incidents at the SRS junction in Makurdi has left many residents, especially students, fearful and frustrated as young people continue to share horrifying accounts of being robbed in broad daylight by suspected criminals operating among commercial motorcycle (okada) riders.
In a widely circulated status and chat screenshots, one victim narrated how he was robbed shortly after leaving a high-level area en route to school. According to him, the incident occurred around 6 to 7 PM in the midst of nearly 20 bikemen, yet none intervened as a single robber snatched his phone, wristwatch, power bank, and some new clothes from his bag.
The victim claimed that when he mentioned he is an “Igede boy,” most of the bikemen distanced themselves, with only one offering limited help by hiding his second phone. He described how the robber dragged his shirt, slapped him, and walked away with his belongings while others watched. He noted that the robber’s friends nearby, seemingly ready to join if a fight broke out.
Other users quickly responded with similar experiences. One student recounted nearly losing her phone and power bank while returning from town to school, stating that nobody among the bikemen helped, and she only recovered her items after paying ₦10,000 through a keke (tricycle) president’s intervention. She now avoids stopping at SRS entirely.
Several comments warned others to stay guided and avoid stopping at the SRS junction for any reason, including fuel. Victims advised that bikemen should always pick passengers directly from town to school or school to town without intermediate stops, and riders should confirm they have enough fuel for the full journey.
The recurring incidents have raised serious concerns about security and possible collusion or fear among some okada riders at the busy junction. This comes shortly after public calls for stronger registration and regulation of commercial motorcyclists in Makurdi to improve safety and curb criminal activities.
Residents are urging security agencies and relevant authorities to increase surveillance and enforcement around SRS junction to restore confidence and protect citizens, particularly students who frequently use the route. Many now advise extreme caution when boarding okada in that area, especially in the evening hours.

Plesea goverment should look into this issue and do something about it
