The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Benue State Chapter has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the Benue State Government over allegations of massive fraud and contract irregularities.

In a strongly worded statement, the party decried the alleged arbitrary award of contracts to cronies of Governor Hyacinth Alia without due process. The call follows public testimonies by the immediate past Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Chief Aondona Dajoh, who highlighted several controversial activities of the current administration.

Dajoh reportedly exposed discrepancies in contract awards, citing the Wurukum to Tyo Mu road project where principal officers were allegedly coerced into backdating documents. He also raised concerns over the award of the Benue State House of Assembly Complex without proper legislative leadership and alleged misappropriation of billions of naira by SUBEB as well as the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The NDC further referenced Dajoh’s earlier exposure of attempts to relocate the Tor Tiv Palace from Gboko to the governor’s hometown, describing it as a shameful move.

The party stated categorically that the state government purse is not a “mummy’s market purse” for arbitrary spending and urged the EFCC to urgently probe the APC-controlled administration to safeguard the fortunes of Benue State. It also called on residents to support NDC for a better Benue and Nigeria.
