Ichongo Elders Hail BSUTH Transformation During Advocacy Visit

The Ichongo Mba Shin Tiev Solidarity Elders Forum on Monday, 13th April, 2026, paid an advocacy visit to the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), commending the remarkable transformation in infrastructure, services and manpower.

The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, expressed gratitude to the elders for their visit and thanked God for preserving them, aged 65 and above. He also appreciated their gesture and commended Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for the ongoing transformation in Benue State despite opposition criticisms.

The CMD stated that he declined to resign following state government directives, stressing his determination to sustain BSUTH’s transformation agenda and prevent a reversal to previous standards, maintaining the progress already achieved.

On political ambition, he said he awaits further directives from his employer, Governor Alia, affirming his loyalty. He urged the elders to promote Minda’s progress, uphold traditions in leadership selection, and support unity-driven leaders.

Speaking for the elders, Elder Richard Asema said they sought clarification on his political ambition, noting their support for his senatorial bid in Zone B and ongoing consultations across Jembga, Gwer West and Gwer-East, despite his declined to resign.

The elders expressed inspiration at BSUTH’s transformation into a “tourist centre,” stating that higher federal responsibility would enable him to replicate such impact for Zone B’s development, and urged Ichongo people to support Dr. Hwande.

In his vote of thanks, Elder Climent Ishor, who was recently appointed leader of the forum, pledged massive consultations to ensure his candidacy, while Elder Ahungwa Samuel affirmed support from Kparev Mba Shin Makurdi for his political ambition.
