Hon. Vitalis Lanshima, a foremost aspirant for the Jechira Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, has undertaken a solidarity visit to victims of the communal clash between Mbaakpunku and Achura communities, both of the Mbaagwa kindred in Ikyuraw Mbatwer Council Ward. The altercation, which degenerated into violent confrontation, inflicted grievous bodily injuries on several persons and disrupted the tranquility previously enjoyed by the agrarian communities. The visit served as a gesture of empathy and an intervention aimed at dousing tension and fostering reconciliation.
Addressing victims and community stakeholders, Hon. Lanshima vehemently condemned the resort to violence as a means of dispute resolution and charged the warring factions to embrace peace, dialogue, and harmonious coexistence.
He admonished that sustainable development and communal prosperity can only thrive in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and bloodshed, emphasizing that as kith and kin bound by ancestry and geography, the people of Mbaakpunku and Achura must jettison hostilities and collectively pursue the path of unity for the greater good of Ikyuvar Mbatwer and Jechira at large.
In furtherance of his philanthropic disposition, Hon. Lanshima made a financial donation to ameliorate the burden of hospital bills incurred by the victims receiving treatment. He expressed fervent prayers for their speedy recovery while assuring the communities of his continued commitment to peacebuilding initiatives and grassroots welfare.
The gesture was received with profound gratitude by the beneficiaries and community leaders, who lauded Hon. Lanshima’s intervention. The visit underscores ongoing efforts by political leaders in Benue State to mediate local conflicts and provide humanitarian support to affected residents.
