The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has imposed an immediate temporary ban on the sale of beef in markets across the local government area following a strategic security interface with traditional rulers from the Ihyarev extraction.
The meeting, held in Daudau on Monday, brought together the council chairman and Ihyarev traditional leaders to address escalating insecurity, communal tensions, and related threats to peace and stability in the area.
After extensive deliberations, the stakeholders adopted key resolutions to safeguard lives and property, including:
1. Immediate temporary prohibition of beef sales in all markets within Guma.
2. Reinforcement of thorough security surveillance across communities.
3. Maximum cooperation with security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and ensure prompt response to emerging threats.
Hon. Orwough commended security agencies for their ongoing collaboration and proactive steps in tackling insecurity in Guma. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the safety, security, and welfare of residents at all times.
The Ihyarev traditional rulers, in their separate remarks, appreciated the chairman’s decisive leadership and dedication to confronting security challenges. They offered their blessings and pledged continued support toward sustaining peace and unity in the area.
The temporary beef sales ban is part of Hon. Maurice Orwough’s broader strategy to actively engage critical stakeholders, reduce opportunities for criminal exploitation, and restore normalcy in markets and communities affected by recurring violence and suspicion.
The measure is expected to remain in force until security conditions improve and further consultations determine the next steps. Residents and traders have been urged to comply fully while security agencies intensify patrols and intelligence operations across the local government.
