Governor Alia Flags Off Reconstruction and Dualization of 55.09km Road Network in Gboko

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially flagged off the reconstruction and dualization of 55.09 kilometres of road networks across Gboko town and its environs, marking a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development drive.

The flag-off ceremony, which took place at Lubona Junction, signals the commencement of a comprehensive road upgrade project valued at ₦62.135 billion, with a targeted completion period of five months, according to the Ministry of Works.

Governor Alia expressed optimism that the ongoing road projects, being executed with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  would significantly improve mobility, boost economic activities, and enhance the overall outlook of Gboko township. He noted that the intervention represents the first major facelift of the town since its establishment.

He urged residents to keep the President in their prayers and to sustain their support as the administration works towards delivering more developmental projects across the state.

The Director of Civil Engineering at the Ministry of Works, Engineer Tivfa Wombo, disclosed that the project scope includes the reconstruction and dualization of Yandev Roundabout–Lubona Junction, Captain Dawns Road, Tor Tiv Roundabout–Lessel Road, J.S. Tarka–Mkar Roundabout, and Tor Tiv Roundabout (Gondo Aluor)–Mkar–Ameladu Road, as well as the reconstruction of NKST Anzua Link Road and Bristow Roundabout–Tor Tiv Palace (Akaahar Adi) Road.

The Group Managing Director of Jamud Construction Limited, Mr. Jacob Momoh, assured that work would commence immediately and pledged to deliver quality work within the stipulated period.

Governor Alia also charged contractors to ensure that all road projects are completed and commissioned before campaign activities commence.

The Chairman of **Gboko Local Government Area, Mr. Torseer Yina, expressed delight and appreciation for the project, describing it as the first of its kind in the history of the township.

Stakeholders in the local government, including Professor Bem Angwe, commended the governor for improving the outlook of Gboko, while APC Women Leader, Mrs. Helen Agaigbe, praised the governor for his leadership capacity. Professor David Orjime stated that the people of Gboko are proud of the governor and appealed for similar attention to the Gboko–Mbatyerev Road. Representing the traditional institution, Chief Ahua Ikpah noted that the Gboko traditional council is pleased with the project.

Governor Alia further disclosed that the Gboko road network will become the second longest in the state, adding that construction is ongoing on other major roads, including 57 kilometres of road networks in the Benue South Senatorial District, notably the Awajir–Oju Road.

The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance safety, and stimulate socio-economic growth across Gboko and neighbouring communities.
