The Benue State Government has commenced the construction of an industrial borehole in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area, as part of efforts to address the long-standing challenge of water scarcity in the community. The project is being executed through the Office of the Gwer West Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, under the state government’s ACRESAL programme.
According to information shared by the council chairman, the borehole project is designed to complement ongoing work on the Naka water works, while plans are also underway for the commencement of desilting activities at the Naka Earth Dam. The combined interventions are aimed at providing a sustainable solution to the water needs of Naka and surrounding communities.
The borehole drilling is expected to go beyond 200 metres in depth to ensure access to a reliable water source. Authorities involved in the project said the depth target is necessary to guarantee consistent water supply, given the persistent shortages experienced in the area over the years.
Residents of Naka have reportedly faced prolonged difficulties in accessing clean water, a situation that has affected daily living and economic activities. The state government says the current intervention reflects a commitment to addressing the concerns of the people and improving basic infrastructure at the grassroots level.
Officials involved in the project noted that work on the borehole is progressing simultaneously with other water-related initiatives in the area, as part of a broader plan to eliminate perennial water scarcity. They added that all relevant stakeholders are engaged to ensure the success and sustainability of the project.
The Gwer West Local Government Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for approving and supporting the intervention, stating that the project demonstrates responsive leadership and a willingness to listen to the needs of communities. The state government has reiterated its resolve to continue investing in water infrastructure across Benue State to improve living conditions and promote development.
