In a development that has ignited fresh political discourse in Benue State, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, has publicly criticised aspects of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration following his defection from the APC to the PDP.

Dajoh, who marked his 50th birthday and the third anniversary of his representation of Gbemacha State Constituency, alleged that his removal as Speaker was linked to his opposition to a proposal to relocate the Tor Tiv Palace from Gboko to Ijugh. He made additional remarks concerning events within the Alia administration during celebrations at Akpagher, Gboko Local Government Area.

The former Speaker’s shift carries added weight as he is no longer in the APC. Last month, he crossed over to the PDP and secured the party’s ticket for Gbemacha ahead of the next election cycle. His exit forms part of a broader reconfiguration, with Paul Biam no longer serving as Chief of Staff and Prof. Joseph Alakali no longer Secretary to the State Government.

Political analysts note that criticism from former close allies often carries greater impact than that from longstanding opponents. The article draws historical parallels, citing Julius Caesar, Richard Nixon, and Robert Mugabe, to underscore how internal dissent from within a leader’s inner circle can prove more damaging than external attacks.

Observers are watching closely to see whether Dajoh’s voice signals isolated discontent or the beginning of wider dissatisfaction among former associates who helped build the current political structure. The situation highlights the fluid and often unforgiving nature of politics, where today’s allies can become tomorrow’s most potent critics once they reposition themselves on the opposing side.
