In the heart of West Africa, a remarkable journey continues to unfold. On November 16, 2025, a Nigerian cyclist, known on social media as the “Nig2USA on a Bicycle” adventurer, reached a milestone on Day 141 of his epic ride. Rolling into Bijilo Monkey Park in The Gambia, he entered a lush, ancient sanctuary where more than 500 monkeys roam freely, unbound by fences or human constraints.
Often hailed as one of The Gambia’s most iconic nature reserves, Bijilo Monkey Park is a place where the wild reigns supreme. The forest seems to breathe around visitors, with dense canopies whispering secrets and trails that appear to decide who may pass. It’s an environment alive in every sense—vibrant, mystical, and unapologetically untamed.
Three primate species dominate this green kingdom:
– Red Colobus: Gentle and shy, these monkeys carry an almost mystical aura as they move silently through the treetops.
– Pata Monkeys: Swift and elusive, they vanish like sparks in the undergrowth, appearing only when they choose.
– Green Vervets: Bold, curious, and ever-watchful, these are the stars of the show. They study every visitor’s move, sneaking close without warning, then popping up beside you with disarming familiarity. Bananas and peanuts are their treasures—and they have no qualms about snatching them with a mischievous grin.
The cyclist, visibly moved by the experience, described a world where nature takes full charge and every moment pulses with life. Amid the rustling leaves and playful primate antics, he paused to extend heartfelt gratitude to his supporters along the trail—Mr. Mark, Sena, and Mr. John—who have kept him going through challenging miles.
“Together we ride. Together we rise. Viva Africa,” he wrote, a rallying cry that echoes the spirit of his journey.
