Residents of Daudu and the entire Guma Local Government Area have every reason to smile today. What was once a dilapidated, barely functional structure has been completely transformed into a modern, befitting police station, ready to serve and protect the people with dignity and efficiency.
The man at the centre of this remarkable turnaround is the Executive Chairman of Guma LGC, Hon. Maurice Orwough, who personally drove the reconstruction project from start to finish. Speaking at the site, the chairman announced that the total overhaul is now complete and the facility will soon be formally handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for immediate operational use.
Painted in the proud colours of the Nigeria Police, equipped with new roofing, modern offices, decent holding areas, and a general layout that speaks of respect for both officers and citizens, the new Daudu Police Station is a far cry from what it used to be. It is now a place where police personnel can work with pride and where members of the public can walk in feeling safe rather than apprehensive.
Hon. Orwough did not mince words in expressing his deep gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for the unwavering support that made the project possible. “This is what happens when a local government chairman has a listening governor who understands that security starts from the grassroots,” he said, adding special praise for the contractors who delivered quality work on schedule.
For years, the people of Daudu and surrounding communities had complained about the state of their police station. Officers worked under leaking roofs, case files got soaked in the rain, and the building itself sent the wrong message about the seriousness with which security was treated in the area. Today, all that is history.
The completion of this project is more than just bricks and mortar; it is a loud statement that the Alia administration and responsive local government leaders are serious about fixing the little things that make a big difference in people’s sense of safety. When police officers have decent places to work, they are better motivated. When citizens see investment in security infrastructure, they are more willing to partner with law enforcement.
As the handover ceremony approaches, one thing is clear: Daudu now has a police station it can truly be proud of, and the good people of Guma have a chairman who keeps his promises. Under Governor Alia’s watchful leadership, the story of security and development in Benue continues to be rewritten, one community at a time.
