The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, has suspended its indefinite strike action, with doctors set to resume full medical services effective Thursday, August 20, 2025.
Announcing the suspension, ARD President Dr. Igbah Terhile stated that the decision followed swift intervention by the Benue State Government. According to him, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia approved the immediate payment of entitlements owed to the doctors, a move that persuaded the association to call off the strike.
Dr. Terhile described the Governor’s action as a clear demonstration of commitment to the welfare of healthcare professionals and the wellbeing of residents. He noted that the suspension was taken in the best interest of patients who had suffered disruptions in healthcare delivery during the strike.
“The ARD appreciates the Governor’s prompt response and we assure the public that we will continue to engage with government in good faith,” Dr. Terhile said.
The ARD president appealed to hospital staff and the general public to support the renewed commitment to quality healthcare delivery at BSUTH, stressing the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders. Patients have been advised to resume accessing medical services at the hospital without fear of disruption.
