The Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, has described Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s recent outburst against Governor Hyacinth Alia as an unfortunate and unwarranted insult that does little to advance constructive political discourse.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Kula said the administration understands Kwankwaso’s misplaced grudge against the Governor. He attributed the anger to the fact that Kwankwaso’s principal, Mr. Peter Obi, was brought into Benue without proper coordination, after which the former Labour Party presidential candidate falsely accused Governor Alia of disrupting the visit. According to Kula, Obi’s drama was completely set up by those desperate to give the Governor a bad name, and if Kwankwaso is yet to understand that Obi was used, it raises questions about whether he truly understands the politics of the region.
Kula emphasised that Governor Alia, described as a Reverend gentleman, was elected by the people of Benue State and that his mandate should be respected by any sane citizen, regardless of political differences. He advised the former Kano State Governor to stop interfering in Benue’s internal affairs or making unfounded claims about the relationship between Governor Alia and Senator George Akume, and instead focus on the political challenges confronting him in Kano.
The concerns surrounding Kwankwaso’s party’s difficulty in finding political footing and his fast-declining political influence in Kano, Kula said, deserve his attention more than personal attacks on another state’s governor. He urged Kwankwaso to stop insulting the sensibilities of Benue people, noting that they are capable of judging their government and deciding their political future.
“Kwankwaso should face Kano politics. He has enough to explain about why his party performed so abysmally in the last by-elections conducted in his state. He must respect the people’s mandate in Benue and offer ideas, not insults,” the statement concluded.
