The Benue State Police Command has formally decorated no fewer than 456 newly promoted officers in a colourful ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi on Tuesday, February 18, 2026.
The event, which drew top-ranking police officers, family members, well-wishers and members of the public, celebrated what many described as a defining milestone in the careers of the beneficiaries. The promotions form part of a nationwide exercise approved by the Police Service Commission and recommended by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Addressing the newly elevated officers, the Commissioner of Police in Benue State urged them to view their promotions not merely as personal achievements but as a call to higher responsibility and stricter adherence to professional standards.
According to the CP, elevation within the Force carries increased expectations in key areas including operational efficiency, discipline, respect for human rights, and unwavering professionalism. He charged the officers to strengthen community engagement, redouble efforts in protecting lives and property, and serve as exemplary models of integrity and dedication across the state.
The Command reiterated its commitment to boosting morale and professionalism within the ranks, describing the decoration ceremony as a symbolic recognition of diligence, loyalty, and steadfast commitment to duty. Officials emphasized that such recognitions serve to motivate personnel and reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s core values amid ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and public trust.
The mass decoration is seen as a morale booster for the Benue State Police Command at a time when security agencies continue to face complex challenges in maintaining law and order across the state. With the newly promoted officers assuming higher roles, expectations remain high for enhanced performance, accountability, and closer collaboration with communities in tackling crime and insecurity.
