The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State has firmly dismissed recurring claims by certain aspirants parading themselves as “consensus candidates” for the Gboko West (Gbemacha) State Constituency. In a statement issued on April 27, 2026, the party stated categorically that it has not reached, initiated, or ratified any consensus arrangement for the said constituency, describing any individual or group advancing such claims as acting without the knowledge and approval of the party.

The APC noted that such assertions are false, misleading, and without foundation. For clarity, the party explained that elders and stakeholders in Gboko, particularly in Gboko West, retain the unquestionable right to support and endorse aspirants based on personal conviction, but such endorsements are entirely independent and must not be misconstrued or misrepresented as decisions of the party.

The APC views the persistence of these misleading narratives as a deliberate attempt to distort the internal democratic framework of the party and to create unnecessary political tension within the constituency. The party remains firmly committed to a transparent, inclusive, and constitutionally guided process in determining its candidates. Consequently, all persons involved in disseminating these unfounded claims are strongly advised to cease forthwith and correct the misleading impression already created.

The party warned that it shall not hesitate to invoke appropriate disciplinary measures against any member found to be undermining its integrity and established procedures. Party members, supporters, and the general public are urged to be guided only by official communications from the APC and to disregard any contrary claims. The statement, signed by Hon. Terfa Iorgilim, Chairman of APC Gboko Local Government Area, affirmed: “For the avoidance of doubt: There is no consensus candidate for Gboko West (Gbemacha) under the APC at this time.”
