A leading aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Enone Federal Constituency in Benue State has strongly rejected the outcome of the exercise, describing it as a charade in which results were allegedly allocated rather than contested.
Okoriko Abah, speaking to Idoma Television, claimed there was no genuine primary election conducted across the constituency. According to him, no electoral materials were distributed to any of the 35 wards in Enone, and the process amounted to a mere announcement of pre-determined results in favour of a chosen aspirant.
“If the primary had been free, fair and credible, there would be no reason to question the outcome. But there was none. What happened was simply the imposition of a candidate and allocation of results,” Abah stated.
He maintained that the exercise failed to meet basic standards of transparency and fairness expected in a democratic primary. Abah’s position has added to the ongoing controversy surrounding the APC primaries in the area ahead of future elections.
The development comes amid other political tensions in Benue State, including separate reports involving former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
As reactions continue to trail the Enone APC primary, stakeholders are watching to see how the party leadership will respond to the allegations of imposition and lack of due process.
