A devastating fire outbreak has left three individuals—a mother of three children and a married couple—without shelter after gutting their homes in the High Level area of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 13th Avenue, Iorkyyaa Ako Street, in the 13th area of High Level. According to residents who spoke to Benue Info-pedia, the blaze started suddenly and without any obvious trigger. At the time of the outbreak, there was no public power supply in the neighborhood, and no cooking or other fire-related activities were taking place, leaving the exact cause of the fire unknown.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began in the single room occupied by the mother of three before rapidly spreading to the adjacent apartment occupied by the husband and wife. The flames consumed both living spaces so quickly that the victims were unable to salvage any of their belongings. All personal property, clothing, documents, and household items were reportedly lost in the inferno.
The affected families are now completely homeless and have made an urgent public appeal for assistance. They are particularly seeking temporary accommodation, clothing, food items, and basic household necessities to help them cope in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
Concerned residents and members of the public have been called upon to rally support for the victims as they attempt to rebuild their lives. For anyone wishing to offer help or make inquiries, the affected families can be reached directly on the phone number 0808 346 8042.
The fire has cast a pall of sorrow over the once-quiet neighborhood, with locals describing the incident as a painful and unforgettable tragedy that has deeply affected the community. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the blaze or any immediate response measures, but the focus remains on providing urgent relief to those displaced by the disaster.
