The Catholic Diocese of Gboko, under the leadership of Most Rev. Dr. William Amove Avenya, has proposed the establishment of a Catholic University in honour of the late Most Rev. Bishop Athanasius Atule Usuh, the first Tiv Catholic Bishop.
The proposed university is envisioned as a lasting memorial to Bishop Usuh’s legacy of faith, education, scholarship and evangelization, while providing quality university education to young people in Benue and beyond.
According to sources close to the Diocese, the institution would combine academic excellence, Catholic values, moral formation and community service, reflecting Bishop Usuh’s belief in education as a tool for human and spiritual development.
If realized, the university would stand as a lasting tribute to one of the pioneers of the Catholic faith among the Tiv people.
