The recent attack on the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga, has sparked widespread concern across the state. At a time when Benue needs peace, unity and focused leadership, every act of violence or political intimidation deserves strong condemnation and a thorough, independent investigation.
Political disagreements and allegations have dominated recent events in Benue, including the disruption of Peter Obi’s visit to the state. While emotions run high, claims about who sponsored or organised such incidents must be established through credible investigation rather than political speculation.
In a statement released by NO Alia NO Benue TV, the group urged the Honourable Speaker to stay strong and remain focused. “Whatever challenges may come, leadership is tested most during difficult moments,” the statement said. It wished him a speedy recovery and renewed strength to continue serving the people of Benue.
The message to residents was straightforward: do not allow political disagreements to divide the state or turn it into a battleground. Accountability must be demanded through lawful and democratic means. Institutions should be protected and violence rejected in all its forms.
The statement also noted that Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Benue State Government should be judged by their documented actions, policies and results. Every allegation, it stressed, must be subjected to evidence and due process.
“Get well soon, Rt. Hon. Alfred. Remain strong, remain courageous, and continue to serve,” the statement concluded. “Peace for Benue. Unity for Benue. Progress for Benue.”
