A desperate call for help has emerged from the Mbajov community in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, where the local Community Health Centre is described as being in a heartbreaking state of disrepair and severe under-equipment.

According to a widely shared appeal circulating on social media, the facility—intended to serve hundreds of vulnerable residents including women, children, the elderly, and the sick—is severely dilapidated. Basic medical infrastructure, essential equipment, and a suitable environment for healthcare delivery are either grossly inadequate or entirely absent, leaving the community without reliable access to essential medical services.

The post highlights the commendable efforts made by the local community to sustain the health centre despite limited resources. However, community members say their capacity has been stretched far beyond limits, making it impossible to maintain even minimal functionality. They emphasize that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a privilege, and no community should be abandoned in such conditions.

The appeal is directed at Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and the Honourable Commissioner for Health, urging them to make an urgent visit and intervene immediately. Specific demands include:

– Rehabilitation of the health facility
– Provision of essential medical equipment and supplies
– Deployment of adequate health personnel
– Ensuring sustainable funding and supervision

Beyond government action, the community is also reaching out to NGOs, donor agencies, UNICEF, WHO, the United Nations, and other development partners to step in and support the restoration of dignified, accessible healthcare in the area.

The message stresses the life-saving potential of prompt response, stating that “an urgent response can save lives” and that the community “deserves better.” It concludes with a plea to share the post widely to amplify the call for assistance.

This situation reflects broader challenges in rural healthcare delivery across parts of Benue State, where many primary health centres struggle with neglect, underfunding, and infrastructure decay despite the state’s agricultural importance and population needs. Governor Alia’s administration has previously announced initiatives to rehabilitate rural health facilities and improve primary healthcare, including declarations of emergency measures in some areas, but residents of Mbajov say the reality on the ground remains dire.

As the appeal gains traction online, it underscores the ongoing gap between policy intentions and on-the-ground realities in underserved communities, renewing calls for targeted, swift interventions to prevent further hardship and potential loss of life in Konshisha LGA.
