A talented young engineer from Benue State, Tarvershima Amua, has developed an innovative smart device aimed at enhancing the safety of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) usage in households, potentially saving lives by preventing leaks and explosions.
Amua, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and current MSc student specializing in Thermo-Fluids and Power Plant Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, showcased his invention inspired by a recent ₦1 million entrepreneurship giveaway by prominent Benue philanthropist Hon. Haakyav Tombu Peter. Boasting an impressive cumulative GPA of 4.64, Amua has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence alongside his inventive prowess.
The groundbreaking gadget is designed to monitor gas cylinders connected to external burners, automatically shutting off the supply in the event of a detected leak. It also continuously weighs the cylinder to track remaining gas levels, alerts users when supplies are low, and monitors cooking time to further reduce risks of accidents.
Amua expressed optimism that his creation will secure a patent, improve design reproducibility, and gain widespread adoption by fire services and regulatory bodies, ultimately transforming gas safety standards across Nigeria. This invention addresses a critical need in many homes where LPG-related incidents remain a concern, highlighting the potential of local innovation to tackle everyday challenges.
As calls grow for support through philanthropy grants like those from Hon. Haakyav Tombu Peter, Amua’s work serves as an inspiring example of how young Benue talents are contributing to technological advancement and public safety.
