A woman identified as Joy Bulya has leveled serious allegations against associates of two prominent local government chairmen in Benue State, claiming she was assaulted during a dispute over an alleged debt of N1 million.
According to Bulya, the incident unfolded at the Benue Carnival in Makurdi on Sunday, December 21, 2025, amid a heated confrontation involving Hon. Maurice Orwough, former Chairman of the Benue chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and current Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, as well as Hon. Jonathan Modi, Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area.
She specifically accused Mr. Luther Nyam (also referred to in some reports as Martin Nyam), an associate of the chairmen who had recently returned from the United Kingdom, of slapping her during the altercation, allegedly in support of the council leaders.
Bulya further alleged that personal belongings, including a wristwatch and a power bank, went missing during the incident. She has appealed to relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that justice is served.
Efforts to obtain comments from the accused parties, including Hon. Orwough, Hon. Modi, and Mr. Nyam, were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The allegations, if substantiated, could raise concerns about conduct during public events and the handling of personal disputes involving public figures.
This development comes amid ongoing activities in Makurdi, as the state continues to navigate various social and security challenges. Authorities are urged to address the complaint promptly to uphold accountability and public trust.
