A United States Congressman has raised fresh alarm over the continued killings of Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, particularly in Benue State, declaring that he will personally present his findings directly to President Donald Trump.

The lawmaker, who recently visited Nigeria and met with Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, and other Christian leaders, described the scale of violence against farming communities by armed Fulani militias as systematic and religiously motivated.

During the closed-door meeting in Makurdi, the congressman was briefed on years of documented attacks, forced displacement, destruction of farmlands, and the burning of churches across Benue, Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and other Christian-dominated areas.

Expressing shock at the level of devastation, he promised to bypass bureaucratic channels and ensure that detailed reports, photographs, and survivor testimonies reach President Trump’s desk without delay.

The visit comes amid growing international concern over what many rights groups have labeled ethnic cleansing and religious persecution in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region. Benue State alone has recorded thousands of deaths and the displacement of over two million people since the crisis escalated in 2018.

Christian leaders in the state welcomed the congressman’s commitment, with many expressing hope that direct White House attention could finally force the Nigerian government to take decisive action against the perpetrators.

As the congressman prepares to return to Washington, sources close to the delegation say a formal briefing with senior Trump administration officials is already being arranged for early 2026.
