In a remarkable stride toward infrastructural development, Governor Hyacinth Alia has completed the construction of 25 township roads in Makurdi, the state capital, within just two years of his administration. This achievement was announced by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.

A Leap in Urban Infrastructure

According to Kula, Governor Alia awarded contracts for 41 township roads in Makurdi, with 25 already completed and the remaining ongoing. These roads are part of a broader initiative that has seen over 390 kilometers of roads under construction across Benue State. “When the governor assumed office in 2023, he flagged off the construction of 16 Makurdi urban roads, which are now completed,” Kula stated. “He later initiated another 25 township roads, of which some are completed while others are ongoing.”

The completed roads are transforming mobility in Makurdi, easing traffic congestion and improving access for residents and businesses. The Alia administration’s focus on urban infrastructure underscores its commitment to modernizing the state capital and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

Major Projects Nearing Completion

Beyond roads, the Alia administration is making significant progress on other critical infrastructure projects. One standout is the underpass bridge at the High Level area of Makurdi and another at Gyado junction, Gboko, which is now 90% complete. This project is expected to alleviate traffic bottlenecks and improve connectivity in the city.

Additionally, the administration is tackling perennial flooding in Makurdi through extensive erosion control measures. A multi-million-dollar erosion control project at Idye and a similar intervention in Wurukum are designed to protect communities from the devastating effects of floods, ensuring safer and more resilient neighborhoods.

Reviving Benue’s Industrial Sector

Governor Alia’s vision extends beyond infrastructure to economic revitalization. The multi-billion-naira *Benue Food Basket Brewery* is set to launch its new beer brand, Zeva, with production slated to begin in November 2025. Emmanuel Adoje, the plant manager, revealed that equipment installation began on August 17 and will be completed in a few months. The brewery boasts an impressive capacity to produce 2,500 crates of beer daily, offering a range of beer products that promise to boost the state’s economy and create jobs.

Efforts are also underway to revive the Benfruit and Benval Juice Factories, which had previously been dormant. These initiatives reflect the administration’s commitment to restoring Benue’s industrial base and positioning the state as a hub for food and beverage production.

Statewide Development

The Alia administration’s impact is not limited to Makurdi. Kula highlighted that the said underpass bridge in Gboko is nearing completion, with additional projects spread across all local government areas. In the healthcare sector, 98 primary healthcare centers are undergoing renovation, while public schools are benefiting from extensive reconstruction efforts. These initiatives demonstrate a holistic approach to development, addressing critical needs in education, healthcare, and infrastructure across Benue State.
