In a significant political development, the local government chairmen of Benue South Senatorial District have collectively passed a vote of no confidence against Senator Abba Moro. This bold move, announced today, reflects growing discontent with the senator’s leadership and legislative record, as detailed in a series of statements shared on social media by local leader Tofi.

The chairmen, led by Hon. (Amb) James Melvin Ejembi, Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council and Deputy ALGON Chairman for Benue State, represent the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the region. The list of signatories includes prominent figures such as Hon. Adole Gabriel Adole (Ohimini), Hon. Sunday Ajuwa (Ogbadibo), Hon. Silah Odeh (Obi), Hon. Jackson Onminyi (Oju), Hon. Maxwell Ogiri (Otukpo), Hon. Adah Mathew Inalegwu (Okpokwu), Hon. Adams Ogwola (Apa), and Hon. Sunday Oche (Ado).

The decision stems from what the chairmen describe as Senator Moro’s underperformance and failure to deliver on promises. They accuse him of using Zone C as a “backdrop for political failures” and resorting to attacks on Governor Hyacinth Alia, whom they credit with bringing tangible progress to the region. The chairmen argue that Moro’s legislative record stands in stark contrast to the governor’s achievements, including the establishment of a Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Annex in Ugbokolo, Moro’s home village, and ongoing infrastructure projects.

The local leaders praised Governor Alia for his inclusive governance and development agenda. Key projects cited include the ongoing construction of the Okokolo-Obagaji-Agagbe Road in Agatu, a long-standing unfulfilled campaign promise by Moro, as well as attention to critical routes like the Ado-Igumale-Aguila Road and Oju-Awajir Road. Additionally, the rehabilitation of the Otobi Water Works in Otukpo and the approval of a BSUTH Annex in Agatu were hailed as strategic moves toward decentralized healthcare and vital human services.

The vote of no confidence is accompanied by sharp criticisms of Moro’s political tactics, including what the chairmen call a “fraudulently staged spectacle” involving dubious contractors and unfulfilled pledges. They assert that Alia’s appointment of six capable individuals from Benue South to his executive cabinet—covering critical portfolios like Finance, Education, Health, and Water Resources—demonstrates an unprecedented level of inclusion, overshadowing Moro’s contributions.

The chairmen emphasized their unity, stating, “We stand united, one formidable voice with the constituents of Zone C, to ensure that the Senator who consistently undermines our progress is not only silenced but decisively voted out of office come 2027.” They urged Moro to cease his “destructive political theatre” and address the consequences of his tenure.

This development marks a significant escalation in the political rivalry between Governor Alia and Senator Moro, with local leaders aligning firmly behind the governor’s vision. As the 2027 elections approach, the stage is set for a contentious battle in Benue South, with the vote of no confidence serving as a clear signal of the region’s shifting political landscape.
