Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, has strongly condemned the gruesome murder and beheading of Ajama Emie, a health worker, by armed bandits in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate under Order 42 on a matter of personal explanation, Moro revealed that Ajama was ambushed, murdered, and beheaded along the Ikobi-Olegogba axis of the Ugbokpo-Ikobi Road on Monday, June 8, 2026. The attackers reportedly fled with the victim’s severed head.
The senator described the incident as another tragic reminder of the worsening insecurity across Benue South, noting that several communities in Apa, Agatu, Otukpo, Ohimini, and Ogbadibo Local Government Areas are under relentless attacks. He stated that the area has become a flashpoint for violent attacks and a safe haven for armed herders.
Moro accused the Benue State Government of indifference to the plight of the people despite substantial security allocations, alleging underfunding of local security structures such as Operation Zenda, Volunteer Guards, and Homeland Security. He emphasized that only federal security agencies — the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps — consistently respond to distress calls.
The lawmaker also raised concerns over the continued detention of Oloche Silas, a youth leader from Agatu LGA, who he said had been coordinating community resistance against attackers. He called for Silas’s release to support local security efforts.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio sympathised with the people of Benue South, particularly residents of Apa and Agatu, and condemned the murder. He assured that necessary measures would be taken to improve security and protect citizens.
The killing has heightened fears in the region, with communities reportedly living under siege. As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Benue State Government on the incident.
