The political landscape took a significant turn as lawmakers moved to suspend former Speaker Hon. Aondona Dajoh, less than 24 hours after his resignation on Sunday, August 24, 2025. His departure paved the way for Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga to assume the Speaker’s role, but the suspension has added fuel to an already heated controversy.
The decision to suspend Dajoh, despite his resignation, has divided opinions. Some lawmakers described it as a “clear case of political payback,” arguing it was an unnecessary move meant to send a strong message. Others see it as a procedural step to address underlying tensions within the assembly.
In a related development, the Assembly confirmed Dr. Stephen Ornguga as commissioner-nominee, despite ongoing controversy. Ornguga’s confirmation remains one of the most controversial decisions, as he had earlier been rejected following petitions from his former students.
