The Benue State Government has reported a significant outbreak of Lassa fever, recording 243 suspected cases since January 2025, with 13 fatalities. According to State Epidemiologist Dr. Asema Msuega, 18 of these cases have been laboratory-confirmed, shedding light on the severity of the situation.

Dr. Msuega revealed that of the 13 deaths, five were linked to confirmed cases, while the remaining eight were classified as probable suspected patients who died before samples could be collected for testing.
