Three persons, including a three-year-old child, have been killed in an attack on Omulonye community in Ugboju Icho, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack reportedly occurred Wednesday night, leaving two other persons injured and receiving treatment in hospital.
A citizen journalist, Meddy Olotu Imanoel Olotu, who visited the scene, said residents raised the alarm and called security operatives during the attack, but three persons were killed before help could arrive. He blamed the attack on suspected Fulani herdsmen, alleging that the assailants invaded the community and killed the victims.
“What was their crime? Nothing. What was the crime of this little child? Nothing,” he said, lamenting the killing of the three-year-old child and two young men.
Olotu said the child was killed at the family’s compound in the presence of the father, while the child’s mother was hospitalised and battling for her life. He also expressed concern over the condition of another injured victim, whose legs were reportedly severely injured and who had been receiving blood transfusions.
