A Benue-based activist, Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, has publicly accused some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) officials in the state of involvement in human trafficking activities. In a Facebook post, Yaaya directed a warning to the officials, stating that action would soon be taken against them.
He questioned whether some IDP officials in Benue State are selling or aiding trafficking, claiming that the insecurity and vulnerability of displaced persons have created conditions in which certain officials deceive minors for trafficking purposes.
Yaaya referenced a previous case in which over 300 children were trafficked out of Guma Local Government Area, allegedly under the watch of traditional rulers and prominent individuals. He noted that the matter remains with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Benue command.
The post ended with a call for the public to “watch next action,” signalling that further steps would follow. The allegations have drawn attention online amid ongoing concerns about the welfare and security of IDPs in the state.
