APC Leader of Persons with Disabilities for the North Central Zone, Hon. David Aondofa, has publicly cried out over what he described as being undermined by several appointees in the Benue State government while attempting to procure wheelchairs for people living with disabilities.
In a statement shared on social media, Aondofa explained that a few weeks ago he travelled to Plateau State to purchase 50 wheelchairs. He said he first deposited ₦2 million and later discussed the initiative with some local government chairmen, informing them of his plans. According to him, many of the chairmen encouraged him to proceed if he had the means to pay, promising assistance with transporting the wheelchairs back to Benue.
Aondofa stated that he subsequently completed payment for the wheelchairs and contacted one of the local government chairmen to notify him. The chairman reportedly advised him to travel to Plateau State and call upon arrival so that arrangements could be made for a vehicle. However, when Aondofa reached Plateau and placed the call, the chairman did not answer. He said he spent five days in the state without being able to bring the wheelchairs back to Makurdi.
The disability leader claimed he had been undermined by many appointees in the current government. He noted that he originally intended to pay for only 40 wheelchairs so that the remaining funds in his account could cover transportation costs back home. But after receiving assurances of support, he used all his money for the purchase, believing assistance would be provided to move the items.
Despite the setback, Aondofa reaffirmed his commitment to serving his community as a special leader. He declared that he would continue to support Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. Regarding the wheelchairs still in Plateau State, he expressed belief that God would make a way for him to bring them home for his people.
