Benue Receives First Batch of Belarus-Trained Youths as Gov Alia Reaffirms Commitment to Skills Development

The Benue State Government on Saturday officially welcomed home the first batch of beneficiaries of the Benue-Belarus International Vocational Training Programme following the successful completion of their two-month intensive training at the Republican Institute for Vocational Education (RIPO), Minsk, Belarus.

The welcome ceremony, held at the Government House, Makurdi, was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode Mni, who represented Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia. Dr. Ode congratulated the trainees for their resilience, discipline, and outstanding conduct, noting that reports from RIPO described the Benue delegation as one of the institution’s most disciplined and committed groups.

The programme, coordinated by the Benue State Bureau for Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation (BEWC), is aimed at equipping youths with globally competitive vocational and technical skills. It was officially launched on October 6, 2025, by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, with Governor Alia approving full sponsorship for 40 Benue youths. The first 12 trainees formed the pioneer batch.

Ms. Benita Shuluwa, Director-General of BEWC, described the programme as a reflection of Governor Alia’s unwavering commitment to human capital development. She commended the beneficiaries for their dedication and noted that the training exposed them to modern technologies, international best practices, and practical vocational skills.

Dr. Ode announced that the government has commenced arrangements for an empowerment package for the graduates, with another ceremony soon to be held where Governor Alia will personally present certificates and empowerment cheques to enable them establish sustainable businesses.

The Deputy Governor urged Novus Microfinance Bank to prioritise the beneficiaries for financial support and called for stronger private sector partnerships to expand opportunities for the graduates. He assured them of placement in ongoing state projects to apply their newly acquired skills.

The first batch of trainees includes: Ede Igbe Isaac, Terkimbi Ternenge, Lumunga Enoch Chiater, Anakaa Sesugh Nelson, Akor Mathias Simon, Sev Joseph Terngu, Amor Terkura Victor, Ishor Terhide Joseph, Ayohol Orsaa Paul, Amase Akaazua Thomas, Ebe David Lasisa, and Oketa Aikwucheyi Christopher.

The return of the first batch underscores the Benue State Government’s dedication to youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and industrial growth.
