The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, Sir Tersoo Kula, has strongly criticized media personality Franc Utoo for what he described as a deeply biased and politically motivated video commentary on the state’s security challenges.
In a detailed statement released on Friday, July 3, 2026, Kula accused Utoo of pushing a narrative designed solely to discredit the administration of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia while deliberately ignoring positive efforts and interventions by the current government.
Kula argued that instead of offering a balanced assessment, Utoo resorted to selective storytelling and emotional appeals, refusing to acknowledge any achievements in tackling insecurity. He contrasted Governor Alia’s measured, strategic approach and collaboration with security agencies with what he called the previous administration’s reliance on media theatrics that failed to deliver lasting solutions.
The statement further debunked several claims made by Utoo, including allegations regarding the handling of the Yelwata memorial event, accusations of denying genocide in Benue, and claims about sponsorship of the governor’s election. Kula described these as unfounded and reflective of political prejudice rather than objective analysis.
He urged Utoo to resist the temptation to exploit the pain of Benue people for partisan gains, emphasizing that security challenges require constructive contributions rather than propaganda. The Chief Press Secretary stressed that the government remains focused on practical measures to address insecurity beyond public relations.
