Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has strongly condemned the killing of Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku, and his associate, Yakubu Isa.
In a statement, Akume described the attack as reprehensible and unacceptable. He insisted that those responsible must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted according to the law. The victims were reportedly ambushed by unknown gunmen while returning from a peace and security meeting in Ohimini Local Government Area.
The condemnation comes as the Benue State Police Command announced the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the killings. Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the roles of the suspects and ensure all culpable individuals are brought to justice. Akume also appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and support efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the state.
The development has, however, triggered mixed reactions. Some citizens have expressed concerns over what they perceive as selective justice, questioning why similar high-level condemnation and swift action have not always followed the deaths of many innocent Benue indigenes killed in various attacks across the state.
As investigations continue, the call for equitable justice and comprehensive security measures remains at the forefront of public discourse in Benue State.
