The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue-SEMA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to public health and emergency response by facilitating the prompt medical treatment of two snakebite victims from internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the state.
According to an official update, the victims, who were bitten at Daudu II and International Market IDP Camps, were quickly evacuated and conveyed to the Moses Orshio Adasu University Teaching Hospital (MOAUTH) in Makurdi for immediate medical attention. The swift intervention was coordinated by Benue-SEMA’s Focal Person on Health, Dr. Amos Dzungwe.
This life-saving action was made possible through the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Benue-SEMA and the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi. Under the leadership of Sir James Iorpuu, PhD, the agency has provided anti-snake venom serum worth millions of naira, ensuring that victims receive timely and effective treatment and do not lose their lives due to lack of access to essential medication.
Benue-SEMA remains dedicated to safeguarding the lives and well-being of internally displaced persons and other vulnerable populations across the state. The agency’s proactive approach to health emergencies, particularly in IDP camps where such incidents are more common, continues to provide critical support to affected communities in Benue.
