Some youths in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday took to the streets in a creative but symbolic protest, staging what they called a “Mud Party” on the heavily deteriorated Oweto-Otukpo Road.
The protesters danced and celebrated inside large muddy pools of water that have overtaken sections of the road, using the unusual demonstration to draw attention to the terrible state of the infrastructure. They called on relevant authorities to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the route.
According to reports, the Oweto-Otukpo Road serves as a major link connecting parts of Benue State to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. However, years of neglect have left it in an almost impassable condition, causing significant hardship for commuters and residents who rely on it daily.
The protest highlights the growing frustration among citizens over poor road infrastructure in the region. As of now, there has been no official statement from the Benue State Government or relevant federal agencies on immediate plans to address the situation.
