Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, popularly known as Yaaya, has called on Benue residents to take collective responsibility in addressing human trafficking and other pressing issues facing the state.
In a passionate Facebook post, the activist expressed strong motivation to combat human trafficking, describing Benue’s ranking as the state with the highest cases of the crime as an insult to all citizens. He stressed that tackling the problem is not the sole responsibility of the Benue State Government but a collective duty of all residents.
Yaaya highlighted the multitude of challenges confronting the state, including insecurity, high cost of rent, rampant kidnapping, rape cases, and the lack of industries and companies that provide employment opportunities.
He encouraged citizens to take initiative in their respective areas of concern, noting that while he focuses on human trafficking, others can confront landlords and agents over high rents or join the fight against kidnapping. Drawing inspiration from how citizens in other Nigerian states have tackled similar issues without direct government intervention, he affirmed that Benue residents can also rise to the challenge.
The post emphasized that these issues represent “our fight” and a shared concern for everyone in the state.
Yaaya’s message has sparked conversations around citizen-led action and the need for greater collaboration in addressing Benue’s multi-faceted problems.
