The Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, has dismissed claims that a presidential directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stopped the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Benue State, describing such reports as false and politically motivated.

Speaking during an interview on TVC News Breakfast on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Kula clarified that no such directive ever existed. He noted that if there had been any presidential directive stopping the primaries, Governor Hyacinth Alia would have been fully aware, having served as the APC Presidential Primary Coordinator and Collation Officer in the state. He emphasized that Senator George Akume himself participated in the exercise in Wannune.

Kula maintained that there is currently no misunderstanding or feud between Governor Alia and Senator George Akume, stressing that both leaders remain committed to the unity and progress of the APC in Benue State.

Addressing the political outlook ahead of the 2027 general elections, the governor’s spokesperson expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Alia would secure even more overwhelming victories in Benue State than in 2023. He described Governor Alia’s second-term bid as a referendum on performance, citing visible infrastructural achievements across the state.

Kula highlighted key initiatives such as the “Operation Light Up the Towns” project, which has installed streetlights across Makurdi, Gboko, Otukpo, and other major towns, significantly reducing criminality. He also pointed to extensive drainage constructions that have controlled flooding in Makurdi and major road projects, including over 37 intra-city roads in Makurdi metropolis and key roads in Agatu, Gwer West, and Oju Local Government Areas.

On security, Kula credited improved collaboration between the state and federal governments, stating that many internally displaced persons have returned to their communities. He affirmed that Governor Alia works closely with President Tinubu on security matters.

Kula assured that Governor Alia would reconcile all aggrieved APC members ahead of 2027, urging party faithful to place collective interest above personal ambition.
