Authorities have arrested a suspect identified as Hembafan Jennifer in connection with an alleged human trafficking ring operating between Benue and Anambra States.
The suspect, from Ugbema in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, is accused of trafficking over 10 minors to Anambra State for prostitution.
According to a report shared on social media by Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, three minors were rescued today from Anambra, all confirmed to be underage. One of the rescued girls is reportedly complaining of abortion complications, with prayers offered for her safe transfer to Benue State tomorrow.
The post further revealed that other suspects linked to the trafficking network remain at large in Ugbema and have allegedly been sending threats to the whistleblower.
The matter has been brought to the attention of relevant security agencies, with copies of the report sent to the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi, NAPTIP Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, and other high-ranking officials including Governor Hyacinth Alia and Raymond Zege Aondoakura.
This development highlights the persistent challenge of human trafficking of minors from rural communities in Benue State to other parts of the country for sexual exploitation. Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure justice for the victims.
