Benue State Police Command Arrests Armed Robbery Suspect, Recovers Firearms

The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a suspect involved in an armed robbery plot following a swift operation by the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF). The arrest took place on September 12, 2025, at around 2300hrs in Gboko Local Government Area, where operatives acted on credible information about a gang planning attacks and robberies in designated areas.

The team stormed the gang’s hideout in Gboko East, arresting a 35-year-old suspect, Liambpe Orpine from Anvambem, Buruku LGA, while other members fled upon sighting the police. Recovered exhibits include one AK-47 rifle, one Jack Knife, and three locally fabricated Dane Guns.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, mnips, psc, PhD, commended the gallantry of the JTF operatives and reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements. He urged the public to continue providing timely and useful information to ensure a safer society for all.

The case, including efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. DSP Udeme Edet, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue State Command, released the statement on behalf of CP Emenari.
