A United States-based humanitarian and advocate, Alex Barbir, has strongly criticized Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, over the continued violent attacks and killings in Kwande Local Government Area.

In a widely circulated video reaction shared on social media, Barbir expressed deep concern about the recurring massacres targeting rural communities in the state. He directly addressed the governor, questioning the administration’s commitment and effectiveness in combating the insecurity plaguing parts of Benue.

“Are you fighting terrorism, or are you part of it?” Barbir asked pointedly, while reacting to the latest reported killings in Kwande. His remarks came amid fresh reports of attacks that have left residents in fear and drawn renewed national and international attention to the security situation in the state.

The humanitarian emphasized that the cycle of attacks demands more decisive and sustained action from the state government to protect vulnerable populations and restore confidence among residents.

The comments have sparked widespread discussion online, with many users echoing calls for stronger security measures, transparent investigations into the attacks, and greater accountability from leadership at both state and federal levels.

Governor Alia’s administration has previously highlighted relative improvements in security across several local government areas and pointed to collaborative efforts with security agencies. However, recent incidents in Kwande have intensified public scrutiny and demands for faster, more visible results in ending the violence.
